Mura 5.3 goes live

We're pleased to announce the availability of Mura CMS version 5.3. This release of Mura CMS contains dozens of new features and enhancements, and is the easiest to use, most powerful version of Mura CMS yet.

As always, you can access the new features of Mura CMS through our simple, one-click updater, and of course, all Mura CMS downloads now include the new features.

Some of the more important new features include:

  • Enhanced Theme Functionality - Mura CMS Themes have been greatly enhanced to allow the inclusion of business logic and custom functionality now - not just look and feel.  Themes can now include their own event handlers, custom content renderer, resource bundles, display objects, and more.
  • CKEditor 3.4 - Previous versions of Mura CMS have used FCKEditor (v2.x) for the text editing interface; we're now including the much-improved CKEditor 3.
  • JW Player 5.2 - We're now including version 5.2 of the open-source JW Video player.
  • Trash Manager - Deleted content items are now stored in Mura's trash manager. Restoring accidentally deleted items is a simple, quick process now.
  • Drag and Drop Site Manager - You can now re-order content in Mura CMS through a simple drag-and-drop interface!
  • jQuery/jQuery UI in Mura Admin - Plugin authors now have access to jQuery and jQuery UI by default, which makes creating great Mura CMS plugins even faster and easier.
  • New Default Themes - Mura CMS now ships with 4 themes, including the Blueprint and 960 Grid CSS frameworks, along with the Blue River-created Merced and Merced Lite themes.
  • Staging to Production Improvements - Clients who use Mura CMS in a staging-production configuration will see significant performance improvements (along with a couple nice bug fixes)
  • Lots of misc bug fixes and enhancements

We'll be exploring each of these items in depth over the next couple weeks; keep an eye out for our blog posts and additions to our documentation. In the meantime, upgrade and enjoy!

@Catalin

At the bottom of the form, there's a link to "Skip the form, just download Mura"

You can just click on that to bypass the form and get to the download.

@Daniel,

I got the same thing, but if you refresh Mura, you'll see the version on the lower left will be 5.3.3071

Did we lose the ability to manually sort pages in Site Manager?

@ Sami: Now staging-production only pushes files that have changed since last push - before this, updates pushed all active content. Huge difference!

@Joe: You can still manually sort pages, but now you can just drag and drop the order. Much easier and faster now.

I have been able to successfully upgrades two sites that were both on VPS accounts. I have tried one other that is a shared hosting account with Hostek. The core update keeps erroring out but says it is at version: 5.3.3000

The site update works and says:

5.3.3075

I have tried reloading app but it does not let me run core update.

The site still functions properly but the admin is not showing 5.3 functionality (like CK Editor).

Thanks

What was the error? The fact that your version number starts with 5.3 tells me that at least your configBean.cfc got updated?

@Matt:

HTTP Error 500.0 - Could not initialize class cfdump2ecfm471394032

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

Good work.

Quick Q: Have the bugs in the email campaign section been fixed and do you have a list of all the bugs fixed?

Exciting stuff, thanks guys! I'm excited to see some movement on making the admin more user friendly (CKEditor, drag/drop, etc.). I'm very excited to update some sites with this.

FWIW, I'll throw in my 2 cents on voting for next rounds of improvements/priorities:

1. Public bug tracker and Git repo.

2. Public bug tracker and Git repo.

3. Public bug tracker and Git repo.

4. Continued Admin UI improvements.

5. More polished and up-to-date documentation.

I know, "who asked ya?!?" LOL. I'm sure these aren't new requests, and they should not take away from the fabulous app that is Mura, and all the hard quaility work you guys are putting in!

A solid bug tracker and GitHub repo could really expedite the way the community can help BlueRiver efficiently track bugs, and even suggest patches. I'm loving GitHub for some other open source projects, as well as internal project use. Assembla has tons of tools for issue tracking, repos and more--FREE for open source projects. This stuff can also make releases and release notes and such much easier. And we could all vote on bugs and watch bugs for updates an comment, etc.

I know you guys know all this stuff, I just thought I'd thrown 'em out there. Let me know what I can do to help!

The downloads page currently (11/10/2010) says "Mura is currently at version 5.2.3175"--is this actually 5.3? Just a typo or naming issue? Thanks!
